Nina Sodden Interview
Nina Soden, aka. The Read Headed Author interviewed me about my writing life and Money Matters. It was a pleasure talking to my fellow scribe.
Here’s an excerpt from the interview, a part in which I talk about my latest project:
NS: “What first gave you the idea for your latest book?”
BF: “My latest book, a novel, dramatizes modern America’s substitution of conspiracy theories and untruths for facts. It is set in 2020 Oakland, California, and concerns a couple in their thirties who enter a crisis in their lives as the coronavirus spreads to the United States. I felt driven to write a novel that explored the parallels between the invasion of the external virus and of the virus of misinformation (the infodemic) that has infected so many aspects of our country.”

Splash Magazine Exclusive Interview
I had an interview with Splash Magazine on their 10th issue, where I talked about writing-related stories and Money Matters.
Here’s an excerpt from the interview:
If Money Matters was made into a film, who would play [Jenny]?
“Saoirse Una Ronan, the lead actress in Lady Bird, Mary Queen of Scots, and Little Women. She’s the right age and a true actress with a Golden Globe Award and three nominations for Academy Awards.”

#5onFri: Five Non-Fiction Rules Fiction Authors Often Break
My article for DIY MFA titled “#5onFri: Five Non-Fiction Rules Fiction Authors Often Break” is now posted. You can read the full article there, and you can also find it on my Writings page. Here’s a short excerpt:
Once I retired from full-time university teaching, I felt free to please myself and turned to fiction. Although I had spent all those years teaching students how to read and interpret fiction, I was astonished to find how little my experience of writing nonfiction works of criticism was of use when I came to write Money Matters, my debut suspense novel.
